Yukichi Fukuzawa is an educator and Enlightenment thinker active in the late Edo and Meiji periods who is well known to everyone.
However, it is not so well known that the starting point of his activities was his encounter with physics at a young age.
This program will focus on Fukuzawa Yukichi’s 1893 speech, “Life’s Pleasures,” and will reveal how his dreams for physics were a part of Fukuzawa’s contemplation.
In addition, the history of the development of theoretical physics research in Japan will be unraveled with a focus on Hideki Yukawa.
